OLD DOMINION
Founded by the surviving religious leaders and figures in the city, primarially among church sects of the city's typically unsavory outer limits, the Old Dominion is the joining of all of the already once-questionable religious establishments and followings that were previously unsanctioned by the city government. What began as minor corruption and reclusive, eccentric members has evolved into an overzealous "new order," a rejoining of the city under the Old Dominion name seeking to turn the government into a femtotheocracy (or government by religious leadership or priesthood). Bishops, saints, nuns and other members of the almost cult-like religions that exist within Kaikura become makeshift generals and sergeants, striking into "nonbelievers" under the name of the Primes. They are known to wear robes over their armoring, and can be terribly wealthy, as most of the funds raised by these practices were put to illegal uses. Old Dominion members are very dangerous and very rarely ever seperate, as they are almost always quite nicely armed with high power firearms and armoring. They are known to carry flags, chant, and even carry swords and shields into "sieges" across the city, clearing out city blocks for "purification."
[COMMON INTEREST: Religion, governmental reestablishment.]
[ASSOCIATIONS: Enemies of all other factions.]
[TYPE: Femtotheocracy, Theocracy.]
(Modern influence: The Knights Templar, Freemasonry.)
PILLAR OF SALT
Another religious-themed organization, the Pillar of Salt organization is actually the unification of all outwardly anti-establishment, anti-spiritualist furres belonging to this particular cult, and membership rapidly rises as Old Dominion gains more control. The group consists of mostly victims of Old Dominion and athiest, anti-religion activists. They are armed only with what they can personally afford or scavenge, and tend to fight particularly 'dirty' due to their few ranks. They strike most often in small teams, sometimes alone, in darkness. They are truly quite ruthless, but against Old Dominion's massive numbers it seems the only viable solution.
[COMMON INTEREST: The disestablishment of religion, victims of evangelist fraud, victims of Old Dominion attacks.]
[ASSOCIATIONS: Only outwardly hostile torward Old Dominion, allies of the Civil Reclamation Directorate.]
[TYPE: Civil group (seeking only survival).]
NOBLE FAMILY
One of the two primary organized crime families in Kaikura, the Noble family is, naturally, controlled by immediate descendants of the Noble family line, and all those that have been hired for the Family. Handled more like a secret society than a traditional crime family, the Noble Family is smaller in ranks than the Morelli family but has more of a political and strategic advantage, as most members and relatives own, control or operate important businesses within the city. Most members of the family are associated happily of their own will, and all seek a common interest: wealth. They are extremely loyal to one another and prefer a very stealthy approach so that any actions performed by the Family are well concealed and covered, often untracable to their source. Because of their connections and involvement, they have access to an extremely wide range of equipment.
[COMMON INTEREST: Descendants of the Noble family, important (though corrupt) business officials, wealth.]
[ASSOCIATIONS: Control of several major businesses, enemies of the Morelli Family.]
[TYPE: Monocracy, Plutocracy.]
MORELLI FAMILY
Known as the largest crime family in Kaikura, the Morelli Family can be best described by the word "ruthless." Stemming from the Morelli family line, the Family is well known throughout Kaikura and is quite feared. While they do not have connections as important as the Noble Family, the Morelli Family has seized many small businesses and controls it's share of important officials through threats and acts of violence. While the Noble family seeks economic control, the Morelli family seeks pure territorial control and power. Those who cross the family often fall in horribly violent displays, as a warning sign to any who think about leaving or doing the Family any wrong. They are quite wealthy and equipped nicely, as well. Determined to be the only ruling crime family of Kaikura, the Morelli Family is at constant war with the Noble family, seeking to overtake them and acquire their wealth. Rather than a true family, the Morelli Family is more like a giant band of rogues.
[COMMON INTEREST: Furres seeking any illegal work, violent criminals, craving of territorial control.]
[ASSOCIATIONS: Most factions universally fear the Family name; enemies of the Noble family.]
[TYPE: Kleptocracy.]
TANTRA ELEMENT
An elite group of conspirators, Tanta Element has been awaiting the day that Kaikura's government would collapse, and for more than just to say "I told you so." Already very disapproving of Kaikura's government system, the members of the highly secretive, reclusive Tantra Element already have a hierarchy/oligarchy of leaders many years strong set in place to form an aristocracy. While shying away from violent crimes torward other factions, the Tantra Element seeks to increase it's ranks by use of multimedia and fear; distributing propaganda, hacking into popular websites and defacing government offices and monuments. Because the group "advertises" mostly to civilians, it seems a very reasonable choice from the group's convincing propaganda. In this time of discord, citizens who once dispised the Tantra Element (read: most everyone) now highly respect them for trying to restore order. All members wear matching black and yellow uniforms, a middle grade firearm and badges for their complex ranking system, and are funded through member donations.
[COMMON INTEREST: Restoring order to Kaikura through an unfavorable, but reasonable regime.]
[ASSOCIATES: Any faction that seeks control or power will target the Tantra Element, but otherwise they are avoided; they are one of the most accepted faction by the general populous in wartime, save the Press Union.]
[TYPE: Oligarchy, Meritocracy, Aristocracy.]
(Modern influence: The Illuminati, Scientology.)
MERCANTILE COLLECTIVE
The Mercantile Collective is a simple concept in itself: groups of powerful, self-armed furres that seek work and money by agreeing to safeguard particular individuals or businesses from harm. They are modern bodyguards, ranging from righteous and proud defenders of their city to the average scoundrel seeking to earn money through violence. They congregate in makeshift halls all over Kaikura, and are typically fairly easy to hire, should the hirer have the required funds -- and few do, during such a chaotic time. Thus, the Mercantile Collective is well known among suriving important civil figures. Their skill level and equipment ranges widely; their only common interest is that they're all willing to fight, obey and earn money.
[COMMON INTEREST: Earning money.]
[ASSOCIATES: Generally loved by any rich furres that can afford their services; otherwise, they are too varied to be dispised.]
[TYPE: Civil group (seeking only survival).]
BLACKMORNING RUST
An unusual concept, Blackmorning Rust's ranks are few but elite. Founded by technological geniuses and high scholars, the group decided to occupy ground zero of the nuclear attack after it was struck, as it was -- for the properly equipped -- the most desolate, "safest" place in the city. All clad in HazMat suits in the group's black and brown colorings, they select prominent members of other civil groups to help join their ranks, promising safety in what is now a very small (but growing) underground village. The Blackmorning Rust is rarely disturbed by conflict, as without proper equipment furres would simply die from entering their territory. Given this vantage point of safety and order, they often lead small attacks against particularly threatening factions and aid civil groups. They attack almost always in large, armored parades of vehicles and are very threatening when provoked. The group seeks more to "outlive, outlast" than to establish a new Kaikura order, and while their small community is prosperous, they have no true overseers or leaders. They are also excellent scavengers, collecting what they can from homes that still stand, but are left unoccupied by the nuclear fallout.
[COMMON INTEREST: A less hostile solution to survival, furres with lots of wealth that can afford to live in this environment.]
[ASSOCIATES: Every other civil group, enemies of anyone who threatens to establish a new chaotic government (such as Old Dominion).]
[TYPE: Civil group (seeking only survival).]
CIVIL RECLAMATION DIRECTORATE
The Civil Reclamation Directorate -- most often CRD for short -- are those homeowners, citizens and workers strong enough to take a stand for their city. Once initiated, members are given access to a variety of CRD's resources, everything from salvaged firearms to vehicles, but they lack general combat experience. The strongest and bravest lead the group, run in small sections, always known to fight in astonishingly large groups rather than alone. Often they will carry flags in mockery of Old Dominion, and are the group's main rival, as they see this outwardly hostile organization the most threatening to their way of life. The CRD's ranks are massive, as they make up the majority of the average civilians of the city. They are also clad in makeshift uniforms of psuedo-military regalia.
[COMMON INTEREST: Regaining control of their city, warding off Old Dominion, former civil workers and homeowners.]
[ASSOCIATES: Rather fond of Tantra Element and the Mercantile Collective for guidance, allies of Pillar of Salt, but dire enemies of Old Dominion.]
[TYPE: Civil group (seeking only survival).]
UNITED16
Named after the sixteen "low income" classified zones of Kaikura, UNITED16's only desire is to protect their homes -- and unfortunately, some of these areas, due to their position near fresh soil and forestry and some of the only areas left with clean water, face lots of attack hostility from territory-hungry factions. Most all the furres here are terribly street-savy and are known to be amazingly ruthless, fighting with absolutely anything they can get their paws on and making a horrible example of anyone who tries to overtake their territory -- often through torture or public humiliation. These furres are proud, and very protective of their low-class housing.. because pride dosen't require wealth. Most furres know to stay away by the flags the group posts to mark off their territory; everything from hanging colored shoes and pants off telephone poles to clearly marked "enter and be killed" signs. They are basically the unification of many small but ruthless, violent street gangs of Kaikura, who were already living in this territory -- needless to say, they don't all get along as well as they should.
[COMMON INTEREST: Defending their territory above all, preserving their community, killing absolutely anything that stands in the way of their slums.]
[ASSOCIATES: Most civil groups (with a good enough reason to enter), enemies of most everything else.]
[TYPE: Civil group (seeking only survival).]
(Modern influence: The Black Panther Party, The Zapatistas.)
THE PRESS UNION
Dedicated to continued media and news coverage, they neither aid nor hinder factions directly. Their hijacked newsfeeds throughout the city, however, keep a constant score as to where the boundaries have shifted, as well as fairly accurate body counts and interviews with the victors. Because of this, they are generally allowed to broadcast live coverage of conflicts without meeting with harm. Some groups (most notably Old Dominion) believe that those inside the faction should take a firm stance (preferably with them) instead of the neutrality. Because of this, they are denied access to these factions' territories. The power of the Press Union, however, lies in its tacit protection from those who benefit from their pirate newscasts.
[COMMON INTEREST: The Truth, recording the reconstruction (or rapid decay) of Kaikura for posterity.]
[ASSOCIATES: Friendly to all factions, though strongly disliked by Old Dominion and often harassed by Tantra Element. They are the most universally accepted faction.]
