-- MAJOR FACTIONS:
KONIG DIRECTORATE - Perhaps the most influential and significant force in history, the Konig Directorate is one of two major forces that upholds balance within the universe. The Directorate itself can be described best as a democracy, a peaceful government in which the citizens appoint representatives and free choice is a solid monument in how the faction functions. Due to the citizen's involvement in the system and their freedom, the Konig is home to the happiest and most contented.
Due to relaxed nature of the system, the general education level is extremely high among Konig Directorate citizens and ensigns -- and the universally famous TMR branch, arguably the most innovative force in modern inventention and design. However, this emphasis on technology and education leads to a smaller military force than it's rival, Theta, but better equipped and with a stronger emphasis on military tact.
The name "Konig" in Konig Directorate pays homage to the absolutely massive vessel in which the government was formed inside of -- the largest spacecraft ever constructed, The Konig II is a mobile metropolis capable of housing over 40,000 citizens comfortably, and is treated as the center of the Konig Directorate itself, capable of fending off attack and providing recreation for the citizens, as well as being a major trading hub and even a military training center. It is set in slow orbit of Loyola, and leaves one half of the planet in darkness every four months.
THETA - A Totalitarian society in the purest sense, Theta is controlled by government officials who control every aspect of the political system and citizens are given no say in who holds office and power over them -- only government officials themselves. Citizens are appointed housing, forced into jobs with overwhelmingly low minimum wage and live their lives however Theta sees fit ("you can't fight city hall"). This system of control leads to remarkably low morale among citizens, but pays off in sheer absolutism in how the society's resources are used.
Most citizens will be forced into military service -- a practice that resulted in the largest military force in the universe by sheer numbers. While morale is terribly low, they are a cruel and calculated force that knows no boundary or limit when it comes to ethics. Theta is a terribly corrupted organization, but in treating citizens as near slaves they have established absolute control and amazing standing power in military conquest. Needless to say, they are not known for negotiation.
The faction itself is named over the planet in which 80% of the government and citizens alike reside -- Theta, an absolutely gigantic rugged planet.. with no natural vegitation or soil to be seen, fiercely harvested right to it's core, stripping the planet bare of it's natural skin; certainly a very dismal locale, shadowed in endless lines of generic, uncomfortable government housing and massive, cruel military compounds.
KRESAK - Furres at their core, the Kresak are considered both an entirely seperate race and faction among themselves. They are savages -- undomesticated creatures that have adapted to their environment to form a work force, rather than a society.
Kresak professions are clearly distinguishable by their outward appearance and build -- the larger, stronger ones will be sent to the mines or become part of the makeshift milita, while smaller Kresak will be used for factory work and delicate tasks. Not much is known of the the race, but they are believed to have the largest planar span of the races, covering many planets that were overtaken by force and are constantly harvested for resources. Each of these planets is dictated by a magistrate, of which there are seven. These magistrates have siginificant control of how things are conducted on their planet, and each tends to have a different focus -- breeding, mining, mystics and domestication, and military training to name a few.
The most characteristic aspect of the Kresak is that almost all of them bare reverse-jointed legs, similar to an ostrich, and even the most frail Kresak have body constructs much larger than the average furre, ranging from six to twelve feet tall and some totaling up to eight hundred pounds. The Kresak have a simple goal -- controling all possible points of resource, and are known for fierce invasions of both Thetan and Konig land, leading to a never-ending battle between the three forces. However, the Kresak know no allies.
(It should also be noted that Kresak culture is entirely comparable to k-selection ecology and evolution: "in stable or predictable environments, K-selection predominates, as the ability to compete successfully for limited resources is crucial, and populations of K-selected organisms typically are very constant and close to the maximum that the environment can bear. Traits that are thought to be characteristic of K-selection include: large body size, long life expectancy, and the production of fewer offspring that require extensive parental care until they mature.")
PHILANTHROPY - The elusive, the elite, the all-knowing. Philanthropy is the entire system's single most secretive organization. The only furres alive who should know of it's presense are those who are part of it's ranks -- otherwise, the rest are either dead or wanted, their cries and theories ignored by the general populous. Philanthropy, naturally, is an invite-only organization.
As though holding the world by strings, Philanthropy stretches ties in communication, transportation, commerce and military -- closely monitoring, even orchestrating certain conflicts and wars through deceptive means.
The easiest method of explaining Philanthropy would be simply "a shadow government" that is never to be known by the average furre -- they think of themselves as collective karma, the collective 'god' and driving force of the world around them, and it is their duty to uphold balance.
-- MINOR & SUPPORING FACTIONS:
THETAN CIVIL FACTION - The few and the proud.. that didn't get killed off by the government for the mere mention of this force, or even the faintest idea of revolt. The establishment of the Thetan Civil Faction is a long lost legend, but the group now has a significant military control. Those brave enough to revolt fight for what they believe they should have -- freedom of choice and a government controlled by the public.
The Thetan Civil Faction operates through many small guerilla forces, all united under the possibilty of freedom for their peers. Obviously lacking any official funding, the Civil Faction is outfitted only by what they have in their own pockets, and what whichever sect they are organized with can supply -- almost always stolen goods from Theta itself. They are anti-establishment freedom fighters of the bravest sort, and the mere fact that the Civil Faction still exists under the fierce, almighty rule of Theta is monumental of their determination.
ADAMENA - A remarkably unusual sort, Adamenians are primarially established on the arctic planet Adamena and are readily recognized for their refusal to accept and general disguist in modern technology. They live their lives as their ancestors did -- huts crafted of ice, timber and stone, and they function under city elders with no true government or system of control. They are a peaceful sort with the richest history one could imagine, with tales being passed on from family to family in the local taverns.
Adamenians have fully refused technology, and in doing so they isolate themselves from such things as firearms, gasoline powered transportation and electricity. They are true hunters, known for wielding spears, swords, shields and bows in wartime, which has been a little more frequent with the Kresak's persistance in overtaking the resource-rich Adamena and it's untouched core (the Adamenians truly need only lumber and mountain-mined metals to get by, and lack the resources to do any major extraction). They are one with nature, and believe in holistic medicine, mystics and are intensely spiritual.
TMR - An elite organization of Konig scientists, TMR -- or Technical Military Resources -- is responsible for countless life-changing innovations and constant study, and thus, constant praise from the citizens and government alike. TMR operates in an extremely elaborate facility the stretches across the small planet of Loyola, almost entirely underground. The facility was constructed to survive nuclear warfare, and even so, it's one of the most comfortable and advanced compounds in the universe.
TMR is owned and controlled by the Konig Directorate, and is home to some very top-secret research as opposed to what the public hears about. Their knowledge of science and technology is almost dangerous, but citizens are given little reason to worry because of the countless ways that TMR has helped them with products they use every day of the week. Under the radar, TMR is developing some of the most fierce, advanced weapons of war one could imagine.
BLACKMORNING RUST - Similar to the Thetan Civil Faction in operation, Blackmorning Rust is an anti-establishment group that fights against the Konig Directorate as a whole -- but because of the government's lenient, passive nature, such an organization is strongly despised by the citizens, as they do not want to see an uprising in an already controlled, universally accepted government.
They exist in very small sects, and operate through small terrorist attacks on communcations transmissions, such as radio, television and the internet, always trying to lure citizens away from Konig through cries of conspiracy and unethical research being conducted in TMR. It's a double-edged sword; many citizens realize that TMR's research may be dangerous and unethical, but it's necessary for survival in a cruel world and still encourage it. Blackmorning Rust is not a significant force and is usually quickly delt with by police authority.. simply a public nuisance.
