So I started reading this comic today, on my favorite label, Vertigo -- it's called DMZ.
And let me tell you, it's fucking EVERYTHING I want the Kaikura scenario to be before it even happened. It fucking nails the whole "civil unrest in a wartorn city" thing perfectly, and it even follows a reporter (Press Union?). Style, rapid storytelling and political/treachery -- it's killer. I'm not even getting paid to praise this or anything, I swear.
I am now intensely inspired, and the Kaikura scenario will probably end up following the Press Union (at -least- in a sidestory, if not the primary), as was intended before this comic made it seem all the more awesome.
